From 2012-2013, I was part of the founding cohort of volunteers for a new faith-based voluntary service program called Quaker Voluntary Service. Established in Atlanta and expanded in 2013 to Portland and Philadelphia, QVS pairs young adults from roughly the ages of 18-35 with urban non-profit organizations working in major U.S. cities. Volunteers learn about Quakerism, live together in intentional community on limited stipends, and are paired with spiritual nurturers from local Quaker meetings.
Volunteers from across the United States participate in a year of service with Quaker Voluntary Service to learn the history and practice of the influential peace church and contribute their talents to the efforts of partner organizations in each city. More information can be found on the QVS Volunteers blog. Take a look!
